While serving as a Youth Minister in 1993, God placed the vision of Fallbrook Church on the heart and mind of Michael A. Pender. He sensed the Lord calling him to start a church. After much prayer, preparation, and assistance from many faithful Christians, the Pender family along with three other families founded Fallbrook Church.
In September 1994, we held our first public service at Gray Elementary School, in North Houston. Fallbrook experienced fruitful years at Gray Elementary, creating disciples out of new converts and helping believers experience a fresh relationship with the Lord. Our focus moved to worshipping in small groups in November of 1994 with Bible studies and other fellowships in individual homes. From these small groups, God created a core group of leaders who helped build upon the foundation Christ laid. The Lord also used these small groups to call preachers, deacons, and other department heads.
From January 1997 to January 1998, Fallbrook leased office space for our administrative offices and to conduct weekly activities. From this small space (less than 1,000 square feet), we held weekly Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, a Youth Revival, Children’s Fellowship, a Couple’s Banquet, Women’s Activities, and much more.
In December of 1997, Fallbrook Church explored the possibility of entering into a contract with New Jerusalem Community Church. We agreed to co-lease the facility in January 1998. Our first service was held there in February. Fallbrook’s ministry matured and great things happened as the Lord continued to add to our numbers.
In 1999, Pastor Michael Pender held a church meeting where he shared the Lord’s plan of blessing us with a new facility. A building committee was organized and in November 2000, Fallbrook closed on 6.14 acres of land on Walters Road. During the fall of 2001, ground was broken to build a 9,000 square foot multi-purpose building.
March 2002 began a new chapter in Fallbrook’s history as we held our first service in what is now our Education Center. Our Phase II building was opened in August 2004 and soon after, we launched the building campaign for Phase III, “Committing to Christ to Serve Our Community”. This campaign was overwhelmingly embraced by the Fallbrook family.
On Easter Sunday 2009, we were blessed to have opened the doors to Phase III of our worship legacy. In doing so, we now have the privilege of serving even more families in the community with ample space for discipleship, conferences, missions outreach, adult learning classes, a Christian academy, before-and-after-school care, town hall meetings, association meetings, summer camps, sporting events and many, many more activities.
Fallbrook Church has come a long way, but we have yet to scratch the surface of what God has in store for us. The Lord has placed a great challenge before us – to “Reach Our Community One Home at A Time” and “Change the Way People Think About the Church Forever”.
